3 Signs It May Be Time to Put Your House on the Market

Now may be the time to make your move.

If you’ve been thinking of putting your home on the market, but aren’t sure if now is the right time, here are three reasons why this may just be the moment to make your move.

1.  Prices are increasing.

There have been a lot of reports lately that the real estate market is turning, and maybe faster than we think. A recent article in USA Today suggested that the time lag on Case-Shiller’s home sales index – which tracks home sale pricing in 20 major metropolitan areas – isn’t giving consumers a true picture of pricing trends. In many markets, particularly suburban areas not covered in the Case-Shiller, prices are trending up and sales are on the rise as well. Want to find out how YOUR market is doing? 2.  It’s that time of the year.

Summer is officially over. Sigh. But the good news is that a “back-to-school” mentality gives the real estate market a little boost in the fall. Vacations are over, prompting people to assume their regular routines and get back to business. Often that involves a renewed focus on house hunting.  In fact, a recent survey by ERA Real Estate revealed that this back-to-school mentality is the primary driver behind fall home sales. Emotional motivations play an important role in fall activity as well, because many fall buyers want to be in a new home for the holidays. Plus, there are the more pragmatic types, who want to cash in on the tax benefits associated with homeownership. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of buyer motivations at play this season that might make it a good time to put your home on the market.

3.  Your lifestyle demands it.

As we emerge from the Great Recession, it is clear that our opinions about homeownership have changed. No longer a get-rich-quick scheme, owning a home has long-term benefits, both financially and emotionally. Whether we are first-time homebuyers defining our space, move up buyers accommodating a growing family or retirees setting out on a new adventure, we see the home as a place to anchor our lives, our families and our dreams. Maybe it’s time to make your move – your life may just depend on it!
