3 Tips for Maximizing Your Storage Unit

While it’s ideal when moving to be able to transfer your belongings directly from one house to the next, sometimes you need to find a temporary holding place in between. When renting a storage unit, it’s important to make the most of the space. Here are a few tips to help you do so, courtesy of RIS Media:

  • Use the Space Wisely. Think of this as a game of Tetris – you need to twist and turn each box and piece of furniture so all gaps are filled in before you start the next row. Taking the time to be strategic will help when it comes time to take everything back out again.
  • Map it Out. As everything finds its place, make a map of where everything is in case you need to access something in particular.
  • Place Items Strategically. In addition to your Tetris game, try to group items by room or family member so they are pre-organized for when the moving truck comes to bring them to your new home.

When you’re exhausted from packing, it can be tempting to fill a storage unit with haste so you can move on, but do yourself a favor by thinking ahead to the other end of the process to set yourself up for moving success.
