Effective Managerial Tips for Realtors With Assistants


Having an assistant can make things easier for you as a realtor. Your assistant can keep track of clients, listings and appointments, while you focus on showing homes and guiding clients through the home buying or selling process. In order for this to work, though, you need to make sure you’re managing your assistant the right way.

Here are some effective managerial tips for realtors:

  • Provide feedback. Let your assistant know if there are any areas she should work on improving. When a problem comes up, talk to your assistant about it and encourage her to let you know if she’s struggling with any particular tasks. Set improvement goals for her after explaining how she could handle the problem better, then meet with her again to check on her progress.
  • Do a performance review. Even if things are going smoothly with you and your assistant, it’s important to conduct performance reviews every so often. These reviews can help you identify any problem areas that haven’t been obvious. If your assistant is new, do reviews 30, 60 and 90 days after her starting date. Focus on areas she might need to improve on, such as work quality, communication skills or time management.
  • Include praise. Don’t just zero in on problem areas during reviews or wait for problems to come up. Let your assistant know when she’s doing a good job, especially during reviews. Give your assistant credit for performing tasks efficiently or going above and beyond. This is one of the most effective managerial tips for realtors, since it helps build a solid working relationship between you and your assistant.
