How to: Style the New Statement Wall

It’s no secret that a bold colored statement wall is one of the more fun ways to spice up a room, particularly if you tend to favor neutrals. But if you’re having a “been there, done that” moment when planning your next redesign, consider the new statement wall: 3D!

As Melissa Tracey explained in a recent Realtor Magazine online article, using texture on your walls can create eye-catching intrigue in an otherwise standard room. Not sure if you’re ready to take the leap? Consider these tips:

  • Choose a texture or design that complements the other décor you have in the room. You don’t want to go so bold that everything seems to clash because of the wall. For example, if your living room features softer lines, don’t choose a wall texture with sharp edges.
  • If you feel tied to staying neutral, pick a wall design that has more detail. This way, you’ll still make a statement, without breaking up the flow of the room.
  • Remember, big things come in small packages. If you’re still hesitant, go with a smaller wall space. You don’t need to cover the length of your front-to-back living room – start with a smaller hallway or bathroom space first.
